In this webinar, Drs. Tracy Witte, Jill Holm-Denoma, and Nicholas Allan provide an overview of why it is important to have an accurate understanding of the latent structure of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, using person-centered statistical approaches. In particular, they focus on the clinical and research implications of categorical versus dimensional structure. Next, they describe two different statistical approaches to identifying the latent structure of a construct (i.e. taxometric analysis and factor mixture modeling), which includes a discussion of the pros and cons of each approach. Finally, they conclude by discussing future directions for person-centered statistical investigations of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
